Dreaming

I had a dream a few nights ago. I dreamt that I had 2 new things: a new phone and gray hair.

I woke up, and exhaled a sigh of relief as I looked into the mirror for reassurance that my hair didn’t turn gray. It’s been a hectic semester. Last semester, I was happy to get a day where I could do absolutely nothing. This semester, I’m happy to be able to spend just an evening not doing any work, which was what I did today. It could have been better though, if I had not fallen asleep in front of the television… This semester has been just too much work. 6 formidable modules with very formidable workloads, and I am still reeling from the effects of the first half of the semester even after the mid-term break and the relatively slow week after that. I SO can’t wait for this semester to end.

And I also can’t wait for the Sony Ericsson C905 to be released…

That’s the phone I was dreaming of by the way. It’s got an 8.1 Megapixel camera. 8.1 million pixels of image and noise. Hopefully with more image than noise. And as if that doesn’t sound demonic enough, it comes with WLAN and GPS to boot, which makes it rather similar to the Samsung INNOV8, except the INNOV8 has no xenon flash and it costs a bomb. In fact, at $788, it’ll cost you several bombs, albeit very small ones. The C905, on the other hand, costs… Well, I don’t know how much it costs, cos it isn’t out yet. Hopefully, it’ll be out sometime this month, and it’ll be cheaper than the INNOV8, though my rational side tells be that it’s probably gonna be even worse…

Birthdays Should Always Be This Good

This post has been due for quite some time now, but better late than never I suppose.

My birthday came early this year, courtesy of Agnes, Bella and Clare. We had dinner at Munchie Monkeys in campus, and it was fantastic. The food was nothing to cheer about – the spaghetti carbonara left much to be desired, but at least it didn’t match the bread-like consistency of their lasagna – but it was the company. What guy wouldn’t wanna spend the eve of his birthday having dinner with 3 girls? It was fun. We had laughs, jokes, and even a birthday cake:

Ok, so it wasn’t a cake, but I hate cake anyway. It was a brownie topped with ice-cream, and 4 Pocky sticks for candles. Kinda kooky, somewhat cute, and really really nice. I mean, nice that they did all this for me. The brownie was something else… But overall, it was still nice! Agnes even gave me a really nice and very elaborate hand-made birthday card. Actually, quite a few people gave me personal birthday cards this year, but this one was really special. You know how people usually get birthday cards with messages from large groups of people and all? This was the very first time someone actually gave me a card that was so personal. And the amount of effort she put into it made it even more special.

And so, the week went on, right into the first day of recess week with the MM meeting, after which we went to this place called Eden Sanctuary. It’s this secluded restaurant in Rochester Park, and the ambience was just so peaceful and serene. It looked like a really nice place to chill out in, unless you had a group of noisy MM comm members dining at the table beside you. But who chills out during recess week anyway? So we got there, and had our food. Oh, if you happen to be there, you MUST try the ginger leek peanut butter fish. It sounds exotic, like many of the dishes there, but it was the besterestest fish I’d ever tasted.

Anyway, it turned out that it was a surprise birthday celebration for Jeremy and I. I wasn’t even aware that it was for me too until they mentioned my name in the most wonderfully ugly rendition of the birthday song I’d ever heard. Comical stuff. This was followed by the most chocolatey chocolate cake you could imagine. In fact, it wasn’t really a chocolate cake. It was more like caked chocolate, ‘cos there was just so much chocolate! I was starting to suspect if some of the moisture in the cake had originated from Jeremy ‘cos he was salivating so much. After the cake came the cards and presents. They got me this purple shirt which was meant to be tight-fitting, so I’m having second thoughts about wearing it, but I shall resolve to wear it out at least once.

So after the surprise dinner, Jeremy, Desmond and I went to walk the Marina Bay Street Circuit. It was a Monday, and we managed to sneak into the Start/Finish straight between the Pit Lane and Turn 1:

That was before we got chased out of the pit lane by the security guard. But we got a good impression of the circuit nonetheless. It looked like a pretty interesting circuit, and it sure didn’t disappoint on raceday. It threw up lots of surprises, and Nico Rosberg netted his personal best finish of 2nd place! But Hamilton managed to stretch his championship lead…

Anyway, it was a great birthday. So, to Agnes, Bella, Clare, Desmond, Yvonne, Michelle, Jessica and Jeremy, and everyone who wished me happy birthday, and even those who didn’t, thank you all for making me realise what great people I have around me, and for making this year’s birthday my most memorable, enjoyable and meaningful birthday ever. =)
