I have just found another favourite band to worship – the Arctic Monkeys! I bought their latest album just last week, and it rocks. Their 1st LP, which I listened to last year, didn’t strike me much back then, but after watching their music video for the song “Brainstorm”, I decided to do a bit of research on their second album, and eventually bought it.
“Favourite Worst Nightmare” is the name of their second LP, as opposed to the more rebellious names of their previous albums (”Whatever People Say I am, That’s What I’m Not” and “Who The Fuck Are The Arctic Monkeys?”, which was an EP), but that’s probably the only thing which has mellowed down a bit, because “Favourite Worst Nightmare” is filled with more of Matt Helders’ quick rock’ n’ roll drum grooves and Alex Turner’s angsty voice. From the quick driving rhythm of “Brainstorm” to the slightly slower ”Old Yellow Bricks”, the album maintains a quick tempo and heavy feel, which is probably what Arctic Monkeys does best, because “Only Ones Who Know”, which is one of the 2 slower songs in the album, wasn’t one of their best songs in my opinion – and that’s putting it mildly.
But overall, it’s a great album, even though it’s a little bit short – all 12 tracks put together will only last you 37 minutes and 39 seconds. It’s still great though, because sometimes, less is more. And I’m definitely going out to get their first album.
